Delhi Schools May Remain Closed Tomorrow Due to Increase in Yamuna’s Water Level

As Delhi continues to battle the effects of heavy rainfall, the water level of the Yamuna river experienced a minor increase in some parts of the city. In response to this development, the Directorate of Education (DoE) ordered the closure of all schools located in the bordering areas of Yamuna on July 17 and 18, 2023.

Although the water level had been steadily decreasing for the past three days, the recent increase has raised concerns about the safety of students and staff. As a result, there is a possibility that schools will remain closed on July 19, 2023. However, no official confirmation has been provided by the authorities yet. Students are advised to stay informed and await official notice from their respective school authorities.

In addition to the closure of schools, flood relief camps are expected to continue operating in affected districts along the Yamuna river. Consequently, all schools, both government and private, in the districts of DoE – East, North East, North West-A, North, Central, and South East, will remain closed for students on July 17 and 18.

The DoE has given school heads the discretion to choose whether they will continue with in-person classes, adopt a hybrid model (combining offline and online modes), or shift entirely to online learning. Regardless of the chosen mode, schools must inform parents well in advance to ensure a smooth transition for students. From Wednesday onwards, all schools in every district are expected to resume normal functioning.

This decision comes as Delhi grapples with the aftermath of heavy rainfall and its impact on the Yamuna river. Balancing the educational needs of students with safety considerations remains a top priority for the authorities. As the situation unfolds, it is crucial for students, parents, and school staff to stay updated on any further developments and directives from the concerned authorities.

Delhi residents are hoping for a respite from the heavy rainfall and subsequent disruptions as the city navigates the challenges brought about by the fluctuating water levels of the Yamuna river. With the safety and well-being of students being paramount, the decision to reopen schools will be contingent upon careful evaluations of the prevailing conditions. As the city continues to tackle these challenges, it is vital for everyone to remain vigilant and adaptable in order to ensure the smooth functioning of educational institutions and the overall welfare of students.
