In a determined effort to combat the dangers posed by Chinese manjha (kite string), the Delhi Police, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police (CP) Sanjay Arora, has launched a comprehensive campaign. With a strong resolve to ensure public safety and protect the environment, the police have conducted extensive searches across all districts of Delhi.

Within the first two days of the campaign, the Delhi Police successfully confiscated 120 rolls of Chinese manjha and took legal action against 44 individuals involved in this hazardous activity. The CP has issued clear instructions to all Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to closely monitor the enforcement actions on the ground, ensuring stringent consequences for those engaging in this illegal practice.

The progress report from the initial two days of the campaign highlights the efforts undertaken by different districts. Districts such as North-West, Rohini, Outer-North, East, Shahdara, New Delhi, South, Dwarka, and West have managed to entirely eliminate the presence of Chinese manjha. Meanwhile, districts like North, Central, North-East, South-West, South, and Outer have taken legal actions, registering either FIRs under section 188 IPC or preparing Kalandras under section 5/15 of the Environment (Protection) Act.

While acknowledging the efforts made, the police also note the need for improvement, as the overall seizure rate remains unsatisfactory. To make the campaign more effective, the authorities stress the importance of investigating the source of the seized Chinese manjha. The police have emphasized the need for uniformity in legal actions taken against offenders, ensuring that appropriate measures are employed as per the Environment (Protection) Act, which deals with the manufacture, sale, storage, purchase, and use of non-biodegradable threads for kite flying.

The notice further highlights the significance of sustained action in detecting more cases and making high-quality seizures, acting as a deterrent to eradicate the usage of Chinese manjha for kite flying.

The primary objective of this campaign is to protect citizens from the dangers of Chinese manjha while preserving the environment from the threat posed by non-biodegradable materials. As the Delhi Police continues their dedicated efforts, they urge the public to report any instances of Chinese manjha usage, encouraging collective action to ensure safer and more eco-friendly kite flying practices throughout the city.
