Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi has been remanded in custody for three more days by the Saket Court in New Delhi. The police were granted the extension after they argued that they needed to gather additional information from Bishnoi relating to an extortion case. The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police had brought Bishnoi before the court following completion of his initial 10-day remand.
According to the legal documents, authorities wanted to confront Bishnoi with a co-accused and learn more about how he had given orders in spite of being in jail. Police officers also said that they needed to transport him to Gandhinagar in Gujarat.
On June 9, Bishnoi had filed an application through his attorney requesting the NIA Special Court to house him in a facility in Bathinda, instead of the Mandoli Jail. In his plea, the gangster had cited the risk of gang violence and war as his rivals were in Mandoli jail. The court has assured that after the three-day custody, Bishnoi will be transported back to Bathinda Jail under heavy guard.
This is not the first legal proceeding involving Bishnoi. In another ongoing case, the gangster is likely to be transported on charges relating to a crime in Gandhinagar.
