Commuters Banned from Exiting Rajiv Chowk Station After 9 PM on New Year’s Eve: DMRC

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Saturday that passengers will not be allowed to exit Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm on New Year’s Eve to manage overcrowding. However, the entry of passengers into the station will still be permitted.

DMRC Principal Executive Director Anuj Dayal stated in a press release that the decision to ban exits from Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm was made in consultation with the police authorities to ease overcrowding concerns. Entry of passengers will only be permitted until the last train departs from the station on December 31. Dayal urged commuters to plan their travel accordingly.

We understand that New Year’s Eve is a time of celebrations and many people choose Rajiv Chowk station as their destination. To ensure the safety and smooth flow of passengers, it has been decided, in consultation with the police authorities, that no exit will be allowed from the station after 9 pm, Dayal stated.

The DMRC’s decision comes as a preventive measure to address the potential overcrowding that usually occurs on New Year’s Eve at Rajiv Chowk station, which is one of the busiest metro stations in Delhi. The restriction on exits aims to maintain order and prevent any untoward incidents due to excessive crowds.

For the convenience of passengers, the metro authorities have advised commuters to plan their travel in advance and consider alternative stations if necessary. Additionally, the DMRC has increased the frequency of trains to accommodate the surge in passenger volume during New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Passengers expressed mixed reactions to the announcement. Some commuters welcomed the move, recognizing the need for crowd control, while others raised concerns about the inconvenience it may cause.

I appreciate the DMRC’s efforts to ensure our safety during the New Year’s Eve celebrations. It can get extremely crowded at Rajiv Chowk, and such measures are necessary to avoid any chaos, said Neha Sharma, a regular metro commuter.

However, not all commuters were pleased with the restriction. Vikram Gupta, a frequent traveler, voiced his dissatisfaction, stating, It’s disappointing to hear that we won’t be allowed to exit the station after 9 pm. This decision will disrupt our plans and may lead to unnecessary hardships for passengers.

The DMRC has assured that adequate measures will be in place to manage the crowd within the station premises and to facilitate a smooth and hassle-free travel experience for everyone. Passengers are encouraged to cooperate with the metro staff and follow instructions for a safe and enjoyable New Year’s Eve celebration.

As the year comes to a close, the DMRC’s decision to restrict exits from Rajiv Chowk metro station after 9 pm on New Year’s Eve aims to prioritize passenger safety while managing the bustling crowds that flock to the station during the festive season.
