Amid the outbreak of mysterious pneumonia in China, the Delhi Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, has denied any alarming situation in hospitals in India’s capital. In a meeting held with expert doctors, including respiratory and pediatric specialists, the situation was deemed non-alarming as of now. The minister highlighted the lack of information and clarity in the advisory received from the Central Government and the limited information available from China. However, the government has decided to conduct tests to detect the arrival of any new pathogen.
We have decided that multiplex PCR tests will be conducted. This test will be started in the hospitals of the Delhi government to identify any change in the situation. If we doubt any infection, it will be tested, said Bharadwaj.
Considering the increase in respiratory infections during this season, the government is making preparations and issuing basic advisories for the public. While Bharadwaj expressed a lack of specific information from the Central Government, he assured that preparations are in place.
The Union Health Ministry has also proactively reviewed and strengthened preparedness measures against respiratory illnesses in the country. Surveillance for respiratory infections has been enhanced through the National Centre for Disease Control and the Indian Council of Medical Research. Health departments across states and union territories have been put on alert following reports of a surge in respiratory illnesses amongst children in northern China.
The Central Government is closely monitoring developments in other countries and maintaining constant communication with the World Health Organization.
It is essential to stay updated on the situation and follow the advisories provided by health authorities to ensure the well-being and safety of the public.
