Delhi FC and Tribhuvan Army FC Share Honors in 1-1 Draw at Durand Cup

Delhi FC and Tribhuvan Army FC played out a thrilling 1-1 draw in a Group E fixture of the 132nd Durand Cup held at the SAI Stadium in Kokrajhar. The I-League side from Delhi and Nepal’s Tribhuvan Army FC showcased their skills and determination, leaving the spectators on the edge of their seats.

The encounter started with Delhi FC taking the initiative and dictating the game’s pace. However, it was Tribhuvan Army FC who created the first significant chance of the match. Sudil Rai broke free on the right side and unleashed a shot, which was expertly saved by Delhi goalkeeper Pawan Kumar.

As the game progressed, Delhi displayed better organization on the field, while Tribhuvan relied on long passes. Himanshu Jangra’s free-kick nearly broke the deadlock, with the Nepal keeper making an outstanding save to tip the ball onto the post.

In the 39th minute, Tribhuvan Army FC took the lead due to an unfortunate mistake by Delhi FC goalkeeper Pawan Kumar. He failed to hold onto a cross, allowing Kamal Bahadur Thapa to provide the assist for Dinesh Henjan, who calmly converted the chance.

Determined not to concede further, Delhi FC responded strongly and launched coordinated attacks. However, the disciplined defense of Tribhuvan Army FC held firm and denied Delhi any clear-cut opportunities, maintaining their lead until halftime.

In the second half, Delhi FC came out with renewed intent to find the equalizer. However, it was Tribhuvan Army FC who had the first shot on target, testing Pawan Kumar with a double save. Delhi continued to mount pressure, but Tribhuvan’s defense remained steadfast, denying Bali Gagandeep and Himanshu Jangra any space in the box.

With time running out, Delhi FC attempted long-range shots in their bid to level the score. Girik Khosla had a golden opportunity to equalize but failed to convert from a cross delivered by Fahad Temuri.

However, Delhi FC’s persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Kuntal Pakira’s shot hit the crossbar and Girish Khosla was quick to pounce on the rebound, securing the much-needed equalizer.

Both teams pushed for a late winner, but ultimately, they had to settle for a point each. The draw marked Delhi’s second in the prestigious tournament, placing them at the top of Group E.

The match showcased the competitive spirit and determination of both Delhi FC and Tribhuvan Army FC. Both teams exhibited impressive defensive displays, with their goalkeepers making crucial saves.

Next, Delhi FC will aim to build on their strong performance as they continue their campaign in the Durand Cup. On the other hand, Tribhuvan Army FC will look to bounce back and secure a victory in their upcoming fixtures.
