A Delhi court has adjourned hearing in the alleged sexual harassment case against BJP MP and outgoing President of Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, until July 1. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal, after examining the lengthy chargesheet against Singh, postponed the hearing accordingly.
The court has also asked the wrestlers, who had earlier sought a court-monitored probe into their allegations, to withdraw their application since the chargesheet has already been filed against Singh. The Delhi Police had filed a charge sheet against Singh on June 15 under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking), and 506 (criminal intimidation), defined under the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Mahima Rai Singh had transferred the chargesheet to ACMM Harjeet Singh Jaspal after hearing the submission by the Public Prosecutor on behalf of the police. The hearing for the case is expected to continue on July 1.
The case has gained attention since the allegations were made against the BJP MP and former president of WFI, with many wrestlers coming forward with their own claims. As the case moves forward, it is likely that more details and allegations will surface, adding to the complexity of the situation.
The proceedings have attracted media attention, with many outlets covering the case and its developments. As the hearing gets underway, people will be looking to the court to ensure that justice is properly served and that any alleged perpetrators receive appropriate punishment.
This case highlights the importance of upholding the rights and dignity of women and providing a safe environment for all individuals. As India strives towards becoming a more equal society and upholding the law, incidents like these serve as a reminder of the work that still needs to be done.
