The Indian Armed Forces are ready to provide assistance in managing Cyclone Biparjoy, according to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. The minister reported reviewing the preparedness of the forces for the cyclone’s landfall, which is due to occur later this week, outlining the forces’ readiness to support civilian authorities in managing any contingencies resulting from the storm. The National Disaster Response Force said it had deployed 18 teams and 13 SDRF teams and evacuated over 45,000 people to safe areas, while the Indian Coast Guard had also reportedly evacuated staff from Gujarat. Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department has warned of a ‘very severe’ cyclonic storm, with some western railways services cancelled as a precautionary measure.
