Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has denied calls for military intervention in the country’s democracy. Responding to complaints regarding poor welfare among troops, the DHQ stated that it rejects any moves asking the Nigerian Armed Forces to meddle in the democratic process. The military high command, led by Chief of Defence Staff General Christopher Musa, reaffirmed its loyalty to President Bola Tinubu and emphasized its commitment to its well-defined roles as outlined in the 1999 Constitution.
Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, the Director of Defence Information, addressed the issue of welfare concerns in the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN). He dismissed reports circulating on social media that suggested the AFN had received a request for a change of leadership in the country. Gusau decried these reports as false and the product of individuals who do not wish the nation well. He emphasized that the AFN fully upholds democracy and remains loyal to President Tinubu and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In response to the dissemination of such untruths, security operatives have launched a manhunt to identify the individuals responsible. Gusau warned those spreading false information of legal repercussions and called for unity in working together to strengthen Nigeria’s democracy.
In conclusion, the Defence Headquarters has firmly denied calls for military intervention and reaffirmed its commitment to President Tinubu and the nation’s democratic process. The DHQ dismissed reports of poor welfare in the AFN as false and urged individuals to desist from spreading such untruths. The focus now lies on identifying those responsible for spreading this misinformation and ensuring the continued progress and well-being of Nigeria.
