The future of former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea seems to be up in the air as his agent prepares to meet with Fenerbahce chiefs in Turkey. According to reports, De Gea’s representative will be discussing a possible move to the Turkish giants as the experienced shot-stopper’s contract with Man United recently expired.

Negotiations between De Gea and the Red Devils over a new deal have so far been unsuccessful, leaving the Spaniard as a free agent. While Man United are still in talks with the goalkeeper regarding a potential return, they are currently focused on signing Inter Milan’s Andre Onana. This suggests that a return to the English club might not be on the cards for De Gea at this stage.

Fenerbahce, on the other hand, seem keen to bring the 32-year-old to Turkey and have arranged a meeting with his agent to discuss a potential move. Reports suggest that the Super Lig outfit is expected to make a formal offer to De Gea, who reportedly still wants to return to Manchester United despite being unhappy with the club’s conduct.

While there have been rumors of a move to Saudi Arabia, De Gea allegedly prefers to continue his career in European football. The goalkeeper joined Man United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has since made 545 appearances for the club in all competitions, keeping an impressive 190 clean sheets.

However, De Gea faced some criticism last season for high-profile errors, particularly against West Ham United in the Premier League and Sevilla in the Europa League. Additionally, his struggles with playing out from the back were highlighted, as he found it difficult to adapt to the style of football favored by manager Erik ten Hag.

Currently, Dean Henderson and Tom Heaton are the only two senior goalkeepers at Old Trafford, with Jack Butland’s loan deal from Crystal Palace coming to an end. Henderson is widely expected to join Nottingham Forest on a permanent basis, while Heaton is not seen as a possible number one choice.

Onana is reportedly Man United’s top target for the goalkeeper position. However, other players such as Brentford’s David Raya and Brighton & Hove Albion’s Robert Sanchez have also been linked with potential moves to the club.

In other news, Man United recently confirmed the signing of Mason Mount from Chelsea, with the English international set to don the famous number seven shirt for the club.

As De Gea’s future hangs in the balance, it remains to be seen whether he will secure a move to Fenerbahce or make a return to Manchester United. Fans will undoubtedly keep a close eye on developments in the coming weeks as they eagerly await the outcome of negotiations between the player, his agent, and the respective clubs.
