Australian cricketer, David Warner has once again been dismissed by Stuart Broad in Ashes 2023, marking the 15th time the veteran Australian batter has fallen to the England pacer. During the first Test of the series at Edgbaston, Warner looked to be aggressive against Broad, attempting to smash the ball through the covers in the 11th over. However, Broad managed to get the ball to nip back, taking Warner’s inside edge and rattling his stumps. The southpaw was livid with himself as he walked back to the pavilion, having scored just nine runs off 27 balls.

Fans on social media have trolled David Warner for his dismissal, with some calling him Stuart Broad’s ‘bunny’. England’s Barmy Army’s twitter page tweeted, Death, taxes, and Warner bottling it to Broad. Splendid. This has raised doubts about Australia’s performance in the series, with England proving to be the stronger team.

Hosts England declared on Day 1 with a score of 398/8, leaving some people to question their decision as they couldn’t pick up an Australian wicket before stumps. However, the way Stuart Broad started proceedings on Day 2 for England was exactly what they needed.

Warner’s dismissal was quickly followed by No.1 ranked Test batter Marnus Labuschagne, who departed for a golden duck after nicking one behind to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. Steve Smith will now be under pressure to get his team out of a tricky situation. At the time of writing, the Aussies were 54/2 with Smith on 10 off 37 and Usman Khawaja on 32 off 63.

The pitch has slowed down but still offers a decent track to bat on. If Smith can get his eye in and bat for a long period, it could mean big trouble for the hosts. Australia will be hoping for no further damage before lunch on Day 2, allowing them to start afresh in the second session. However, it is crucial for Australia’s batters to pick up their game if they wish to stand a chance against England in this year’s Ashes series.
