DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) responded to a recent travel advisory by the Canadian government, aiming to address concerns about traveling to various parts of Mindanao. The DCCCII emphasized the importance of differentiating travel advisories from the security of commercial activities and highlighted the peaceful nature of the people in Mindanao. The chamber stated that immersing oneself in the local culture and environment can dispel any negative impressions. While Davao City was not included in the advisory, the DCCCII highlighted the thriving ICT and service industries in Mindanao, as well as significant improvements in infrastructure and ongoing connectivity projects. The Canadian government’s advisory discouraged travel to several provinces in Mindanao, including those in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Zamboanga Peninsula. The advisory also advised caution for specific provinces in Caraga Region. The DCCCII’s statement aims to alleviate concerns by highlighting the success of major agricultural companies operating in these areas. The chamber wants to assure travelers that Mindanao offers diverse opportunities for commerce and tourism.
