DARPA Transfers Cutting-Edge Data-Sharing Software to DoD

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has transferred control of innovative software designed to enhance data sharing between US and allied forces to the US Department of Defense (DoD).

In a significant development, DARPA handed over the Secure Handhelds on Assured Resilient networks at the tactical Edge (SHARE) program to the DoD’s Tactical Assault Kit (TAK) Product Center. This move marks an important step toward streamlining and securing data exchange at the tactical level between US and allied forces.

The TAK Product Center will now take the lead in integrating the SHARE software into current and future command, control, communication, computer, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) systems and platforms.

Ryan McLean, director of the TAK Product Center, expressed enthusiasm for the new software, stating, SHARE brings next-generation networking technology to the TAK ecosystem. He added that the data-sharing software is ready for rapid technology integration within the TAK user community and is expected to be part of the TAK 5.0 software upgrade package, scheduled for release by November 2023.

This strategic move by DARPA to transfer the SHARE program aligns with its mission to drive technological advancements and support the needs of the military. The goal is to enhance collaboration and communication among forces operating at the tactical level, both domestically and internationally.

With the integration of SHARE into the TAK system, military personnel will have seamless access to enhanced networking capabilities designed to facilitate secure and efficient data exchange. This transition signifies a significant step forward in leveraging advanced technologies to address the challenges faced by teams operating in complex and dynamic environments.

The TAK system has demonstrated its effectiveness in various military exercises, showcasing its ability to facilitate coordination and situational awareness among multinational forces. The inclusion of SHARE software will further augment the capabilities of the TAK system, providing users with a cutting-edge networking solution tailored to their specific operational requirements.

The transfer of control from DARPA to the DoD marks an important milestone in the development and deployment of the SHARE program. By leveraging the expertise and resources of the TAK Product Center, the DoD can expedite the integration process and maximize the benefits of this advanced data-sharing software.

As the TAK community eagerly awaits the upcoming TAK 5.0 software upgrade package, scheduled for release in November 2023, the incorporation of SHARE will undoubtedly enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness of military forces. With advanced networking technology at their fingertips, US and allied forces will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of modern warfare while ensuring seamless collaboration on the battlefield.

In conclusion, the transfer of the SHARE program from DARPA to the TAK Product Center represents a significant step toward advancing data-sharing capabilities at the tactical level. As military forces increasingly rely on secure and efficient networking solutions, the integration of SHARE into the TAK system marks a significant leap forward in enhancing coordination and information exchange. With this innovative software, US and allied forces will have the tools they need to navigate complex operational environments more effectively.
