Former Pakistani cricketer, Danish Kaneria, has criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, Najam Sethi, over the hybrid model adopted for the 2023 Asia Cup. Kaneria said that Pakistan should not have boasted about hosting the whole tournament at home if they were going to turn that claim around. The former off-spinner also questioned the PCB’s expertise in arranging a hybrid model, suggesting that Pakistan would only be able to play against Nepal on their home turf before travelling to Sri Lanka to complete the continent-wide tournament. Kamran Akmal, also an ex-Pakistani cricket player and current member of the PCB’s selection committee, has suggested that the Asia Cup will be a good preparation for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup later in 2023. He emphasised the importance of India and Pakistan playing against each other in regular competitive matches. The tournament is scheduled to start on August 31st, with the final being played on September 17th. The last Asia Cup was won by Sri Lanka in a final against Pakistan.
