Dangote Sugar Refinery, the largest producer of household and commercial sugar in Nigeria, is making significant strides in job creation and boosting the economy. The company’s Backward Integration Project (BIP) in Numan, Adamawa State, has employed over 7,000 workers annually, contributing to Nigeria’s employment landscape as the second-largest employer after the government.

During a media tour of the company, Bello Abdullahi Dan-Musa, the Group General Manager of Operations, highlighted Dangote Sugar Refinery’s commitment to job creation. Besides employing thousands of able-bodied youths as direct employees, the company also employs over 7,000 youths during the peak production season.

Dangote Sugar Refinery recently paid over N500 million to out-growers for the sugarcane produced under the DSR Numan out-growers scheme. This initiative not only supports local farmers but also ensures a sustainable supply of sugarcane for the refinery.

The current capacity of the DSR Numan refinery is 4,800 Tons of Cane Per Day (TCD), and the company has plans to upgrade it to 6,000 TCD by the end of 2023, 9,800 TCD by 2024, and subsequently to 15,000 TCD. This expansion is part of Dangote Sugar Refinery’s commitment to the Backward Integration Program set by the Nigerian government.

Chinnaya Sylvain Judex, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Dangote Sugar Refinery, expressed satisfaction with the progress of the expansion drive. The company has acquired state-of-the-art machines to support its production process, ensuring efficiency and quality. Furthermore, Dangote Sugar Refinery operates an independent power system, with excess energy planned to be redirected to the national grid. This not only benefits the company but also contributes to the economic development of the entire Northeast region.

The impact of Dangote Sugar Refinery’s presence in the host communities has not gone unnoticed. The Paramount Ruler of Bachama Kingdom in Adamawa State, Dr. Daniel Ismailia, commended the company for its Corporate Social Responsibility activities. He recognized the significant reduction in criminal activities and praised the thousands of job opportunities created for the people of Adamawa State and Nigeria as a whole.

In conclusion, Dangote Sugar Refinery’s commitment to job creation and sustainable production is helping to transform Nigeria’s economy. Through its Backward Integration Project, the company is not only providing employment opportunities but also supporting local farmers. As the largest producer of household and commercial sugar in Nigeria, Dangote Sugar Refinery continues to play a crucial role in the country’s economic growth and development.
