Dangerous Car Cruising in Castle Donington Prompts Police Seizure and Increased Patrols

Police in Castle Donington have seized a car and pledged to step up patrols in response to concerns about dangerous car cruising in the area. The latest incident occurred on Sunday (September 3) when officers from North West Leicestershire Police were called to Castle Donington and neighboring Kegworth following reports of a car cruise taking place. Car cruising involves drivers gathering on public roads and engaging in high-speed races.

Residents have long complained about the dangerous racing that takes place on the A453 near Castle Donington. In fact, last month alone, the police received 16 complaints in one night, raising concerns about excessive noise and the potential for fatal accidents.

Although car cruising itself is not illegal, the police have highlighted the importance of conducting these activities in appropriate locations and in an acceptable manner. However, since 2021, Castle Donington has banned car cruising through a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO).

Unfortunately, the PSPO has not completely deterred racing in and around Castle Donington, prompting the police to increase their patrols in response to ongoing reports. During the most recent incident, police seized a vehicle without issuing any further warnings, as the manner of driving warranted immediate action. Several traffic offence reports were also issued, including cases of incorrect license plates.

North West Leicestershire Police have made it clear that they will continue taking positive action to prevent car cruising. They stated, Those who use our roads as racetracks or use car parks and industrial estates as performance areas will face strict consequences, as will those who engage in anti-social behavior or disrupt the local community with excessive noise.

The police are urging residents who are concerned about dangerous car cruising to report any incidents to them by calling 101 or through their website.

In conclusion, the dangerous car cruising problem in Castle Donington has led to police seizing a vehicle and increasing patrols in the area. The police are determined to take firm action to disrupt this behavior and ensure the safety and tranquility of the community. Residents are encouraged to report any incidents to the police to aid in their efforts to combat this issue.
