Mysuru, Karnataka – In a disturbing incident, a Dalit man was brutally assaulted for refusing to beat drums and announce a temple programme in Makodu Village near Periyapatna town, Mysuru district. The Karnataka Police have registered an atrocity case against a local resident named Kumar in connection with the assault.
According to the police, Kumar had approached the victim, Paramaiah, and demanded that he play the drum and announce a special worship program at the Basaveshwara temple. However, Paramaiah informed Kumar that he had stopped playing the drums.
Despite Paramaiah’s refusal, Kumar forced him to proceed with the task, accompanied by his son Basavaraj. As they approached the temple, Kumar reprimanded them for initially declining and then subjected Paramaiah to a violent assault.
Paramaiah sustained serious injuries and was immediately admitted to a nearby hospital in Periyapatna town. In light of the incident, his son filed a police complaint against Kumar, leading to an ongoing investigation.
The attack on Paramaiah highlights the prevalence of caste-based discrimination and violence that continues to plague Indian society. Dalits, who occupy the lowest rung of the caste hierarchy, often face such atrocities and are subjected to various forms of oppression and marginalization.
Authorities are urged to take swift and stringent action against the accused to ensure justice for Paramaiah and his family. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need to address deep-rooted social prejudices and create a society that upholds equality and dignity for all its citizens.
As the investigation progresses, it is imperative to recognize the significance of this incident as a reflection of broader societal issues and the continued struggle for justice and equal rights for marginalized communities.
It is crucial to stand in solidarity with victims of caste-based violence and to actively work towards eradicating discrimination in all its forms. Only through collective efforts can we hope to build a society that embraces inclusivity, respect, and fairness.
The case serves as a reminder that no individual should be subject to violence or discrimination based on their caste or any other factor. It is a test for the justice system to ensure that the guilty are held accountable and that such incidents are not treated lightly.
Let this incident serve as a wake-up call for society to confront and eliminate all forms of caste-based discrimination, ensuring that every individual is free to live with dignity, without fear of persecution or violence.
