Dak Prescott Reacts to Dallas Cowboys Trading for Trey Lance, Expresses Understanding in NFL’s Business Moves

In a surprising move, the Dallas Cowboys have acquired quarterback Trey Lance in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. The deal, which involved a fourth-round draft pick, has left many wondering about the future of Dak Prescott as the team’s starting quarterback. However, when asked about the trade, Prescott responded with understanding, acknowledging the nature of the NFL as a business.

Prescott, who has spent his entire career with the Cowboys, expressed that he was not surprised by the trade. To be honest with you, I’m not surprised by anything anymore, he said after the Cowboys’ preseason win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He further explained that after eight years in the league, he understands the business side of football.

While Prescott appeared slightly hurt by the trade, he acknowledged that teams are always seeking to improve and make their rosters better. That’s a first round of talent, and you’re always trying to make your team better, he stated. Despite the arrival of Lance, Prescott remains focused on the team’s ultimate goal of winning the Super Bowl.

As for Trey Lance, the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 draft, he now finds himself as the Cowboys’ third-string quarterback behind Prescott and veteran backup Cooper Rush. Although he has only played in eight games and started four during his time in San Francisco, Lance’s presence in Dallas could influence the Cowboys’ decision-making if Prescott’s future contract demands become too costly.

Prescott, who recently signed a four-year, $160 million deal with the Cowboys, is under contract through the end of next season. The team has expressed its desire to sign him to an extension, but if negotiations prove to be challenging, Lance could potentially be viewed as the next man up.

In the previous season, Prescott threw for 2,860 yards, 23 touchdowns, and a career-high 15 interceptions. Despite facing setbacks and injuries, the 30-year-old quarterback remains determined to lead the Cowboys to success.

While it remains to be seen how the addition of Trey Lance will impact Dak Prescott’s future with the team, both quarterbacks are professionals who understand the business side of the NFL. As the Cowboys aim to build a winning roster, Prescott’s focus remains on winning the Super Bowl and making the team better. With the regular season just around the corner, all eyes will be on Dallas to see how this quarterback situation plays out.
