Daily Living Centers Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Oklahoma City, is making a meaningful impact this Veteran’s Day by giving back to the veterans who have served. This commendable initiative is aimed at showing appreciation and honoring their service.

DLC operates three locations in Oklahoma City, providing nonresidential affordable day services to over 200 participants for 246 days each year. These services include meals, exercise programs, socialization, activities, and outings, which have been described by caregivers as lifesaving.

As a member of SHINE (Start Helping Impacted Neighbors Everywhere), a volunteer program initiated by Oklahoma County Commissioner Brian Maughan, DLC participants have collectively volunteered over 60,000 hours since 2021. In a recent act of gratitude, the Bethany Center created thank-you cards and organized a punch and cookie party for veterans at the VA Living Center in Norman. Similarly, the Edmond Center plans to visit the Oklahoma City VA Hospital, presenting a handmade thank-you poster and cards. The South Oklahoma City Center will decorate the OKC VFW in preparation for Veteran’s Day.

Notably, the increasing participation of veterans in DLC’s programs can be attributed to the coverage of service costs by the VA. The President and CEO of DLC, Amanda Dirmeyer, acknowledged the significance of veterans’ contributions, expressing her gratitude to all veteran participants and those who have served the country.

The efforts made by Daily Living Centers in collaboration with SHINE demonstrate the power of giving back to the community. County Commissioner Brian Maughan praised the impact of these volunteer activities, emphasizing the substantial benefits they bring to society. From litter pickup to flower planting, every hour invested in creating a better community reaps dividends for everyone.

This selfless initiative serves as a reminder that the contributions made by veterans deserve recognition and appreciation. Daily Living Centers’ sincere efforts to honor their service provide a shining example for others to follow. As we approach Veteran’s Day, let us remember and express gratitude to all the veterans in our communities, acknowledging the sacrifices they have made in service to our country.
