Dacoits Unleash Terror on Chennai-Bound Express, Stealing Gold at Knife-Point: Investigation Progressing
Panic broke out in the vicinity of Subbarayudu Satram railway gate, located between Ulavapadu and Tettu railway stations in Prakasam district, as a gang of dacoits targeted passengers aboard the Hyderabad-Chennai Express. Operating under the cover of darkness on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, the six unidentified miscreants, believed to be travelling on the Hyderabad Express, executed a daring robbery at knife-point. Their audacious act left passengers shocked and terrified.
The perpetrators swiftly halted the train shortly after the Ulavapadu station and stealthily entered coaches S-1, S-2, and S-3. Armed with knives, they confronted four women passengers and forcibly took away their gold ornaments. The stolen loot was estimated to weigh between 35-40 tula. In a brazen attempt to extend their crime spree, the assailants then targeted the Chennai-bound Charminar Express. However, due to the vigilance and quick response of alert railway police personnel, the thieves were confronted and thwarted.
Following several victims lodging complaints with the railway police, an investigation was launched into the incident. We have received one complaint so far, reporting the theft of 40 grams of gold ornaments from a passenger. We are currently awaiting copies of the other First Information Reports (FIRs), after which appropriate cases will be registered. We are determined to apprehend the dacoits swiftly, stated Ongole Railway Circle Inspector N Srikanth Babu. A case has been officially registered, and efforts are underway to bring the culprits to justice.
The heinous crime has left railway authorities and passengers deeply concerned about the safety and security of train travel. Urgent measures are now being considered to enhance surveillance and bolster the presence of police personnel on trains to prevent such incidents from recurring. Passengers have been advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities promptly.
