Cyberpunk 2077 is set to receive a major overhaul with the upcoming 2.0 update, particularly in its police system. CD Projekt Red, the game’s developer, has shared details of the changes that are set to be implemented alongside the Phantom Liberty update for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.

In a blog post, CD Projekt Red highlighted that these changes are not exclusive to those who purchase Phantom Liberty. Instead, they will be part of a free update called Cyberpunk 2077 2.0, which will be released alongside the expansion. The studio stated that the new system was built on clear and simple rules to ensure that criminal activity is punished, runners are chased, and cyberpsychos are eliminated without question.

The current police system in Cyberpunk 2077 only triggers a response from law enforcement when players commit significant crimes, and escaping without much trouble is relatively easy. However, with the 2.0 update, this will change. Upon reaching the maximum heat level, players will confront a Max Tac mini-boss, with different variations of this formidable adversary. The Night City Police Department will show no mercy and will not be swayed by bribes or surrender.

CD Projekt Red also mentioned that running from the police will now involve thrilling car chases and roadblocks, making it more challenging to escape capture. Players will be able to lose their pursuers by leaving the crime scene on foot or by driving away. Once the player is no longer being pursued, NPCs will naturally and intuitively leave the scene. This new system aims to maintain clarity and enhance the prevention loop in the game.

In addition to the police system changes, the Phantom Liberty update will introduce a host of new story content and gameplay features to Cyberpunk 2077. Vehicular combat, a cyberpsychosis feature inspired by Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and a subtle nod to The Witcher will also be included. However, it is worth noting that these exciting additions will result in increased PC requirements for the game.

Phantom Liberty is scheduled for release on September 26. Players can look forward to a fresh and immersive experience in Cyberpunk 2077, with the revamped police system and a range of exciting new features coming their way. The update aims to enhance gameplay and provide a more engaging and dynamic open-world experience for players across different platforms.
