MULTAN: The Directorate of Customs Intelligence & Investigation (I&I), Multan Region, has seized an impressive array of smuggled goods and vehicles worth approximately Rs.967.40 million during multiple operations carried out in November 2023. The intensified efforts by the Customs I&I Multan come as part of a larger drive to combat smuggling and prevent the illegal influx of foreign origin miscellaneous goods into the country.
Led by Member Customs (Operation) Ms. Zeba Haye Azhar and directed by Director General Intelligence and Investigation, Faiz Ahmad Chadhar, the Directorate of Customs I&I Multan has successfully executed numerous operations against smuggling activities. Director Asif Khan Buzdar initiated a substantial crackdown on smuggled goods and vehicles, displaying a zero-tolerance policy towards smugglers. Cooperating with law enforcement agencies and actively sharing information, the directorate worked tirelessly to aggressively combat smuggling.
Deputy Directors of Customs Intelligence, Asif Ali Sakhi, and Ali Tauqeer, played a pivotal role in cracking down on smuggling activities originating from Baluchistan and making their way to the Punjab border. Despite facing significant pressure from notorious elements, they managed to close all smuggling routes, preventing the illegal transport of goods.
Director Asif Khan Buzdar issued directives to the field Intelligence staff, urging them to take immediate action against any instances of smuggled goods and enhance monitoring of suspected vehicles. As a result of their efforts, the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan successfully detected nearly 20 significant seizure cases, amounting to approximately Rs.705.10 million during November 2023-24 operations.
The field Intelligence staff intercepted numerous trucks that were loaded with a substantial quantity of plastic bags, skimmed milk, dry fruits, and clothes while conducting routine road checks on strategic routes. Intercepting the vehicles, the Customs field Intelligence staff discovered and seized a significant amount of miscellaneous goods.
The Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan’s strict actions have made it increasingly challenging for smugglers to bring non-customs duty paid goods into the region. With a mission to curtail smuggling, the directorate aims to promote genuine and legal trade activities in South Punjab while discouraging illegal businesses that rely on smuggled goods.
By effectively blending operational efficiency and strategic enforcement, the Customs Intelligence recent crackdowns are contributing to a safer and more secure region by deterring illegal activities associated with smuggling.
