Cursive Is Cool Contest Open for North American Students in Grades K-6, US

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The American Handwriting Analysis Foundation has officially launched its 10th Annual Cursive is Cool® contest, inviting students from Kindergarten to Grade 6 across North America to showcase their handwriting skills. The contest, which runs from January 23 to April 15, 2024, aims to encourage young writers to explore the art of cursive writing.

Students are encouraged to submit their entries early, as prizes will be awarded for First Place, Second Place, and Third Place in each grade based on legibility and neatness. Additionally, there will be a prize for the most Creative Content in each grade, ensuring a diverse range of submissions are recognized. A random drawing will also take place at the conclusion of the contest, giving every entry the chance to win a prize.

Lauren Mooney Bear CG, Campaign for Cursive Chair and President of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation, expressed excitement about the contest, stating, We are helping young writers find their voices. Every entry has an equal chance to win. Our judges are excited and look forward to reading the kids’ points of view. The entries are enlightening and often entertaining.

The annual Cursive is Cool contest has garnered support from various organizations across North America, including Holistic Health Counseling Center, Blind Pig Press, Amsterdam Printing, CursiveLogic, Sheila Lowe Author, Dixon Ticonderoga, Fahrney’s Pens, Itoya, and many more. The widespread support demonstrates the enthusiasm and recognition for the importance of cursive writing in education.

Dr. Marion Rollings, Vice-President of the American Handwriting Analysis Foundation, encouraged students to embrace the creative and fun aspects of cursive writing. Write don’t type! Cursive is creative and it’s fun to try different kinds of pens to write with, she emphasized.
