The Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir (CUK), Prof A Ravinder Nath, has requested teaching faculty to frame curriculum and courses that align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and meet student aspirations. Speaking at marathon NEP implementation committee meetings over three days, he emphasized that CUK should offer unique and distinctive courses based on student learning abilities. He urged the faculty to design pedagogy that caters to diverse learners, and enable students to design their own courses under exit options. Additionally, a unique School of Honours and Skill Development will be opened in the future.

The CUK model curriculum is expected to encompass 40 to 50 per cent international dimension, 40 to 50 per cent national parity, and 10 to 20 per cent regional or local significance with university uniqueness. To prepare students for the future, the curriculum will also provide internship opportunities and focuses on skill and capacity-building. During the meetings, Deans of Schools, Heads, and Coordinators of departments provided a detailed presentation on curriculum and credit framework revision, based on recommendations from NEP-2020.

The policy aims to transform the education system and prepare students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. Prof. Shahid Rasool, Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized that the university has adopted a multidisciplinary approach and offers a wide range of subjects. The university has also established mechanisms for the accumulation and transfer of credits earned by students. Dean School of Education and Nodal Officer, NEP Implementation Committee, Prof Z A Geelani said the policy aims to prepare students for future challenges and opportunities. The Vice-Chancellor directed all teachers to follow the LOCF document released by the UGC.
