Cold cryptocurrency wallet manufacturer Ledger has released a statement addressing last week’s hacking incident and the potential refund of users’ assets. The company has vowed to compensate the victims and take measures to prevent similar breaches in the future. The security breach occurred when Ledger’s widely used Connect Kit JavaScript library was compromised, resulting in the theft of hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of cryptocurrency from users’ wallets. Ledger has attributed the attack to a phishing attempt targeting a former employee. In their statement, Ledger expressed their commitment to rectifying the situation and ensuring the safety of the ecosystem. The company acknowledged the loss of approximately $600,000 in assets stolen from users who utilized Blind Signing on EVM DApps. Pascal Gauthier, Ledger’s CEO, confirmed that victims’ stolen assets, including non-Ledger customers, will be fully compensated by the end of February 2024, employing various means, including goodwill gestures. Additionally, Ledger announced the discontinuation of Blind Signing with Ledger devices starting June 2024. The company aims to address the incident promptly and maintain transparency for the affected users.
