The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has called for pre-repair/renovation works on school buildings to take place during the summer vacation with the help of various groups, including elected representatives and teaching associations. A letter sent to the Director of Education in Andaman & Nicobar Islands drew attention to the dilapidated state of many school buildings in the area. CPI (M) Secretary, D. Ayyappan, suggested that a plan for renovation/repair of all school buildings and teachers’ quarters should have been prepared, involving the community to ensure the work was done effectively. Ayyappan pointed out that despite the recent summer vacation period, no repair/renovation works had been carried out on school buildings. The Education Department has been asked to issue guidelines on this issue.
