COVID-19 Update: India Sees Over 60 Fresh Cases, Active Covid Count Falls to 1,579

India’s COVID-19 cases continue to be closely monitored as the country battles the ongoing pandemic. On June 28, India recorded 65 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total case tally to 449.94 crore (4,49,94,097). The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reported that the number of active COVID-19 cases in India has decreased to 1,579, with a recovery rate of 98.81 percent. The death toll currently stands at 5,31,905, with one death reported in Uttar Pradesh and one reconciled in Kerala.

With regards to specific regions, Mumbai reported eight new cases of COVID-19, bringing the city’s infection tally to 11,63,940. The death toll in Mumbai stands at 19,773, while the number of recoveries reached 11,44,146. Over the past 24 hours, 1,079 swab samples were tested in Mumbai, with a total of 1.8 crore (1,88,96,673) tests conducted in the city so far. Mumbai currently has 21 active cases of COVID-19.

India’s COVID-19 vaccination drive has also shown promising progress, with a total of 220.67 crore doses administered throughout the country. Of these, 178.81 crore doses have been administered as the first and second doses among people aged 18 and above. Uttar Pradesh has administered the highest number of vaccinations, with 39.20 crore doses, followed by Maharashtra with 17.79 crore doses and Bihar with 15.72 crore doses.

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) practices for preventing the spread of the virus. The Banega Swachh India campaign, initiated by Dettol and supported by Campaign Ambassador Amitabh Bachchan, aims to promote a clean and healthy India. The campaign emphasizes the inter-dependency of humans and the environment, as well as the need to consider the health and well-being of vulnerable communities. It also focuses on issues such as nutrition, mental well-being, and gender awareness, along with environmental concerns such as air pollution, waste management, and climate change.
