The DKI Jakarta Health Service has reported an alarming trend in Covid-19 cases, recording 200 positive cases per day in the capital city for a week. The majority of these cases are classified as mild or asymptomatic, with patients recovering within three to five days of self-isolation at home. While this may be reassuring, the Health Service is urging the public to remain vigilant and complete their Covid-19 vaccinations.
According to Ngabila Salama, the head of the Epidemiology and Immunisation Surveillance Department of the DKI Jakarta Health Service, the number of hospitalised patients indicates that the situation is still under control. Currently, the hospital occupancy rate stands at around 5% of the total beds provided, with approximately 50-60 patients receiving treatment. This represents only 10% of the positive active cases in Jakarta.
Salama emphasized the importance of completing the Covid-19 vaccination, especially in light of the disease’s resurgence. As of now, Jakarta has distributed the first dose of the vaccine to 12,592,988 people, surpassing the total target, while the second dose has been administered to 10,955,959 individuals. The third and fourth doses have also been given to 5,546,155 and 724,553 people, respectively.
Various locations, including the Tarakan District Hospital, Jakarta City Hall clinic, and district health centers, offer vaccination services. Salama assured the public that individuals can receive the vaccine without prior registration, regardless of the brand used for previous doses.
Furthermore, all vaccination services are prepared to provide a free fifth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to Indonesian residents aged 18 and above, as outlined in the circular letter issued by the Indonesian Ministry of Health on December 15, 2023. The government’s main focus now is to protect vulnerable groups by ensuring they receive all five doses of the vaccine and implementing early detection measures.
As the number of daily Covid-19 cases remains high in Jakarta, it is crucial for the public to adhere to preventive measures, complete their vaccinations, and report any symptoms promptly. By doing so, individuals can contribute to the overall effort to control the spread of the virus and protect the community.
