Cost of BEd courses varies by up to Rs 12K among different colleges

A recent development in India’s Madhya Pradesh has seen the Department of Higher Education (DAVV) release fee structures of colleges to assist students in selecting colleges during registration for centralised online counselling for admission to BEd courses. According to counselling data, there is up to Rs 12,000 difference in fee structures of colleges in the city. The School of Education, which is an entity of DAVV, charges the highest amount at Rs 44,211 per year for the two-year course while the fee for the same course at seven other colleges is as low as Rs 32,000 in the city. The fee structures of colleges are decided by the Admission and Fee Regulatory Commission (AFRC) based on their facilities and standards. Association office bearers of Devi Ahilya Private Education College have welcomed the move but requested DHE to provide the number of students allotted seats to the college so that students can confirm their admission. There are a total of 33 colleges in the city which offer BEd courses with a total intake capacity of 3,500. The first round of counselling ended on May 30, with the common merit list of eligible students to be declared on June 7 while the allotment list is set to be released on June 10. Students allotted seats will need to report to the college concerned by June 14 and pay 50% of the total course fee through online mode to confirm their admission. Registration for the second round will start on June 7, and if there are seats remaining vacant after the first round, the third round of counselling will take place from June 19 to 24.
