Cornerstone OnDemand, a leader in learning and talent experience solutions, has recently released its 2023 Talent Health Index. The report provides valuable insights into the current state of talent programs across organizations worldwide. The findings paint a concerning picture, revealing a persistent gap between what employees think they need for growth and development at work and what talent programs are actually providing.

One of the key findings from the report is that a significant number of employees feel their organizations are not offering enough development opportunities. Approximately 41% of employees believe they lack the necessary resources to develop their skills. Furthermore, 65% of employees are seeking additional learning content, 62% are eager for more coaching and mentoring, and 59% are in search of more career guidance.

The report also highlights the fact that most organizations have room for improvement when it comes to their talent programs. The average Talent Health Index score places employers in the Administrative maturity level, indicating that talent programs are still in the early stages of exploring new innovations. Automation and the development of a robust learning strategy are areas where talent programs are lagging behind.

Another noteworthy finding is that organizations are slow to adopt emerging talent innovations. Only 37% of organizations leverage learner-centric tools to streamline talent processes, and more than 60% of organizations have yet to leverage AI technology to optimize their talent.

One significant gap highlighted in the report is the skills confidence gap between employers and employees. While 88% of employers feel confident they can develop their employees’ skills, only 59% of employees agree. This 29% confidence gap indicates that organizations are not providing the level of support and tools that employees are seeking for their skill development.

However, not all organizations are falling behind. The report reveals that high-performing organizations, which demonstrate higher customer satisfaction, productivity, employee retention, and overall performance, also score higher on the Talent Health Index. These organizations have a more sophisticated approach to talent programs, particularly in the areas of content strategy, skills strategy, and performance management.

To address these gaps and improve talent programs, organizations are encouraged to invest in a holistic talent strategy. This includes providing more development opportunities, leveraging learner-centric tools and AI technology, and focusing on the specific needs and expectations of employees.

Cornerstone OnDemand aims to support organizations in this endeavor through its Global Talent Health Index. By offering a comprehensive assessment of talent programs’ maturity levels, organizations can identify areas for improvement and create strategies that drive real business impact.

In conclusion, the 2023 Talent Health Index reveals a concerning gap between employee development needs and the offerings of current talent programs. Organizations must prioritize investing in their people and modernizing their talent strategies to adapt to the ever-changing workplace landscape.
