Copywriter Claims ChatGPT Took Away Her Job Due to AI Layoffs

A copywriter by the name of Olivia Lipkin has claimed her firing from tech startup OpenAI in April was due in part to artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ChatGPT. San Francisco-based OpenAI is the company behind the development of ChatGPT, which is an AI laboratory. The bot was released in November last year. In the months that followed, Lipkin’s workload began to dwindle until the tech startup, where she was the only writer, let her go without an explanation as to why. Internal Slack groups were allegedly discussing ChatGPT replacing writers, suggesting that many managers planned to use the bot instead of using a writer, as it was cheaper. Lipkin is now a dog walker and claims that her employer’s use of AI was partly responsible for her firing.
