In Srinagar, a man has finally been convicted for the rape of a minor girl that took place in Soura back in 2012. The girl in question had been taken to the hospital by her father, who complained of stomach pains. Doctors confirmed that she was pregnant, and after further enquiry, the minor girl revealed that Irshad Ahmad, a man who lived as a tenant in their neighbourhood, had raped her. Initially, a case was filed under Section 376 RPC, and the subsequent investigation revealed that the victim girl was just 14 years old. Ahmad was arrested shortly after, and a charge sheet was filed. After a long trial, he has now been convicted of the crime and sent to Central Jail Srinagar. The court acknowledged the fact that the crime committed was definitely a crime against the society, and that Ahmad had committed a barbaric crime of rape against an innocent child who had suffered greatly as a result.
