Controversy surrounds the Drag Queen Story Hour event held at The New Children’s Museum in San Diego, as protesters gathered both in support of and against the reading session. Dozens of people lined the sidewalks outside the museum, expressing differing opinions on drag queens reading books to children.
While some attendees, like Ryan Waroff who traveled from Temecula, believe there is a sexualized agenda in America, citing concerns over transgender men in bathrooms, school curriculums, and drag queen shows, others, like Paul Kozina, who recently moved to San Diego, believe the opposition stems from discomfort with men dressed as women.
In anticipation of the protest, The New Children’s Museum decided to close its doors on that Saturday, allowing only families who had previously RSVP’d for the event to attend. The event was closely monitored by a significant presence of San Diego Police officers to maintain peace and order.
The museum plans to reopen to the public on Sunday at 9 a.m., welcoming visitors once again. It is evident that this controversial event has sparked a heated debate within the community, with individuals on opposing sides expressing their viewpoints passionately. The differing perspectives surrounding the Drag Queen Story Hour emphasize the importance of understanding and respecting diverse opinions in society.
