Controversial Assam Judge Faces Backlash for Anti-Hindu and Anti-Army Tweets
An Assistant Sessions Judge in Assam, Shah Syed Ahadur Rahman, has sparked outrage and backlash on social media with his controversial tweets targeting the Hindu community and the Indian army. Rahman, who has been a part of the Assam Judicial Service since 2002, recently came under fire for his posts on Twitter criticizing the Indian army’s presence in Kashmir and expressing his support for Kashmiri ‘fighters.’
In one of his tweets, he claimed that the Indian army posted in Kashmir are communal, using the hashtag #KashmirLivesMatter. He also alleged that the army is not neutral and shared his personal experience of facing biases during his visit to Kashmir as a university student. These tweets not only raised concerns about his impartiality as a judge but also drew widespread criticism for spreading misinformation and targeting the armed forces.

Furthermore, Rahman has not limited his controversial tweets to the army alone. He has also directed derogatory remarks towards the Hindu community. On the day anti-Hindu riots broke out in the National Capital, he tweeted, Brahmins run. He has also downplayed the insecurities faced by the Hindu community, mocking their concerns by saying, Hindus are in danger, an alarm is required now.
Rahman’s tweets are not just limited to targeting specific communities; he has also peddled false claims and made baseless accusations. He falsely claimed that India is exporting beef (referring to cow meat) to Gulf countries and asserted that Hindus are involved in such businesses. In reality, India only exports buffalo meat, a fact that has been reiterated by BJP Minister Nirmala Sitharaman back in 2017. Additionally, he has made sweeping generalizations about the Hindu community, blaming them for defaults in loan repayments and rapes.
The controversial judge has also been seen making derogatory comments about Hindu spiritual leaders. He suggested that such leaders have negative intentions and made inflammatory remarks about them potentially being rapists. Rahman’s posts reveal a disturbing mindset and raise serious questions about his suitability to hold a position of power and authority within the judiciary.
Interestingly, despite the backlash he faced, Rahman took to Twitter to inform his followers that he is being considered for the position of additional district judge/district judge. This revelation has caused further concern among those who believe that he should not be promoted due to his controversial and prejudiced views.
Rahman’s tweets have drawn attention from various quarters, including Trinamool Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member Saket Gokhale, who is among his followers on Twitter. Gokhale himself has faced legal trouble in the past and was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a crowdfunding fraud case.
The controversy surrounding Shah Syed Ahadur Rahman highlights the importance of ensuring judicial officers maintain impartiality and professionalism both within and outside the courtroom.
