The Mizoram police and Assam Rifles have conducted a joint operation and seized a large quantity of contraband drugs worth over Rs 5 crore in the international market. The seized drugs include 1.026 kg (88 soap cases) of heroin. The team of Special Narcotics police station and Assam Rifles conducted the operation in the Zemabawk area of Mizoram’s Aizawl and apprehended Hmingthansanga, a resident of Champhai district. Further investigation and interrogation led to the arrest of another accused involved in the case, Lalsanga Sailo. A case under sections 21(c)/25 ND & PS Act has been registered at the Special Narcotics police station for further investigation on forward/backward linkages. In May this year, a joint operation conducted by Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police seized a large quantity of contraband drugs worth Rs 19.5 crore in Aizawl, and one person was arrested in connection with the case.
