The Bengaluru police have arrested four individuals for allegedly extorting money in exchange for transporting beef illegally. Among the arrestees, one is a local Congress worker. The incident took place on June 21 in the RMC Yard police station limits.
According to police, Khaja Mohiyuddin and Umesh had purchased beef from Magadi town and while transporting the meat in an SUV to Shivajinagar locality in Bengaluru, Prashanth, a Congress leader from Sunkadakatte locality, and his associates blocked their vehicle on Tumakuru road under the pretext that their vehicle had been hit.
Prashanth demanded Rs 2 lakh from Khaja Mohiyuddin and Umesh after discovering that they were transporting beef. Following their refusal to pay, Prashanth and his group physically assaulted the two individuals.
The police rushed to the site after receiving information about the incident and apprehended all four individuals. While Prashanth and his associate, Somu Gowda, were arrested for extortion and assault, Khaja Mohiyuddin and Umesh were apprehended for illegally transporting beef.
Two separate cases have been registered in connection with the case, and the police are investigating the matter further.
