Congress Leaders Protest FIR Against Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Kamal Nath in Madhya Pradesh

Congress leaders and workers in Madhya Pradesh staged protests in various districts on Sunday following the registration of an FIR against the social media accounts of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Kamal Nath, and others. The FIR was filed against the handlers of these accounts in connection with a post that accused the Madhya Pradesh BJP government of corruption.

According to KK Mishra, MP Congress media cell chairman, FIRs have been registered in 41 districts of the state against Gandhi Vadra, Nath, as well as former Union ministers Arun Yadav and Jairam Ramesh. Mishra also alleged that the crime branch in the state has become an organization favoring the BJP.

The FIR was based on a complaint about a fake letter being circulated on social media, which claimed that contractors in the state were being asked to pay a 50% commission. The Indore police registered the FIR against the account handlers of Gandhi Vadra, Nath, and Yadav.

In response to the FIRs, the Congress party held press conferences in 52 districts of Madhya Pradesh and organized protests in several others. Mishra criticized the crime branch and warned that they would be held accountable after the upcoming assembly elections. He also claimed that the FIRs were infringing upon the party’s fundamental right to free speech.

PC Sharma, a former MP minister, expressed the party’s readiness to face imprisonment and stated that FIRs would not intimidate them. Sharma further accused the BJP leaders of lying without consequences while individuals speaking the truth were targeted with FIRs.

Amidst the protests, an e-rickshaw featuring a scanned image of Kamal Nath along with the caption truth of corruption Nath and details of various scams appeared near the state Congress office. However, it was soon driven away.

The complaint against Gandhi Vadra, Nath, and others alleged that they conspired to defame the state government and the BJP by sharing misleading social media posts accusing the regime of corruption. Gandhi Vadra had previously posted on social media about a union of contractors from Madhya Pradesh who claimed that their payments were only released after paying a 50% commission.

The Congress party has promised to release a list of alleged scams that have taken place over the past two and a half years. Mishra challenged the government, asking how many more people they would book in response.

Overall, this FIR against Congress leaders has sparked widespread protests in Madhya Pradesh, with the party’s members arguing that their freedom of speech is being obstructed. As the state gears up for assembly elections later this year, these controversies may play a significant role in shaping the political landscape.
