Congress leader Pramod Tiwari fired back at BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad, who had questioned who would be the opposition’s prime ministerial candidate in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. Speaking at the highly-anticipated opposition meeting in Bihar’s Patna, Tiwari assured Prasad that the opposition’s PM contender was ready and urged BJP to be ready to welcome them. He added that the purpose of the meeting was to unitedly raise voices to save democracy. Tiwari’s comments came after Prasad had asked who the groom (PM contender) was in Nitish Kumar’s wedding procession for the 2024 elections in Patna.
The opposition meeting in Patna aims to arrive at a consensus to form a united opposition front to take on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. The opposition chose Patna as the venue for the meeting due to its symbolic representation of the 1974 call for total revolution by Jayaprakash Narayan that toppled Indira Gandhi’s majority government.
The meeting is being attended by several prominent leaders, including West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, Former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, MP Sanjay Raut, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
The opposition meeting is one of the most significant events in Indian politics in recent times, as it could determine the political landscape in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The meeting is expected to result in the formation of a united opposition front against BJP and its allies.
Overall, the opposition’s PM contender may not be clear yet, but this meeting reflects the unity among the opposition parties and their determination to give a tough competition to BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
