Madhya Pradesh’s Home Minister and Senior BJP leader, Narottam Mishra, stated in a press conference on Thursday that the Congress party is facing a shortage of candidates in the upcoming state Assembly elections. Mishra mentioned that there are multiple constituencies without any strong candidates, which has led the party to seek support from other political parties. He added that the situation was similar during the 2018 elections, and several candidates were brought in from other parties at that time.
Mishra also took a jibe at the Congress party’s ‘Sandesh Yatra’, which is scheduled to commence from Bhopal on Thursday and conclude in Datia. Mishra stated that the Congress had launched many such yatras in the past, but they did not yield any significant results. He added that the fresh yatra would meet with the same fate.
The State Congress President, Kamal Nath, is expected to flag off ‘Sandesh Yatra’ from the party’s headquarters soon. During the yatra, Kamal Nath is anticipated to cover ten districts in the Bundelkhand region, targeting approximately 23 lakh people. More than 50 public meetings are set to take place in 25 Assembly constituencies across the ten targeted districts during the yatra.
According to reports, Damodar Singh Yadav, Vice-president of MP Congress Committee and executive president of Madhya Pradesh Congress Backward Classes Department, played an instrumental role in planning the yatra. The Congress party is allegedly struggling to find strong candidates against the BJP. The party has been attempting to seek support from other political parties to make up for the candidate shortage.
