The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Bhupen Kumar Borah has slammed the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in the state and described it not as the “double engine” government but as the “trouble engine” government. He targeted the Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and called out the promise of providing millions of jobs which has not been fulfilled. He also pointed out discrepancies in the government that have come to light in terms of its debt burden which had increased drastically ever since the BJP-led government took over in the state.
Accusing the state government of inflating the GDP to avail loans, Bhupen Kumar Borah demanded an explanation for unfulfilled promises of providing 22 lakh jobs and the move to take a loan of Rs 50,000 in the following year. He expressed his concerns for the current administration’s fiscal mismanagement.

Himanta Biswa Sarma is the current Chief Minister of the Indian state of Assam since 2009. He is also the state president of Bhartiya Janta Party since 2020 and has served as Minister of Finance, Health and Education of the state. He has been playing a key role in the economic development and betterment of Assam. He is a popular figure in the state and is credited with augmenting the state’s revenue stream through innovative taxation policies. He has also been accusing Congress of not fulfilling the promises made to the people.
