The Maharashtra Congress has warned of a sinister conspiracy allegedly concocted by the Bharatiya Janata Party to create a Manipur-like situation in Maharashtra by abusing their power. According to state Congress President Nana Patole, riots have broken out in at least 10 places in Maharashtra over the past 10 weeks and that the ruling BJP is behind these disturbances. He claimed that such disturbances are being deliberately created by the ruling ally to divert attention from its failures on issues such as inflation, unemployment, and farmers. Patole mentioned Amravati, Akola, Shegaon, Nashik, Ahmednagar, and Kolhapur as some of the cities that have witnessed such religious-centric violence.
With parliamentary, assembly, and civic elections slated to take place over the next few months, Patole suggested that such disturbances are an attempt to create communal discord. However, he maintained that the BJP’s ploy has been exposed by the people, and that the plan has failed, adding that the masses of the state are influenced by great icons of the state and will never fall for such tactics to divide the people on communal lines.
We have met the Governor and the Director-General Police to bring to their notice the law and order situation and we have done everything we can, but nothing concrete has been done so far, Patole said.
