Communal Violence Erupts as Mosque Attack in Gurugram Leaves Five Dead

A tragic incident in Gurugram, Haryana has sparked communal violence, resulting in the death of five individuals. The violence began in Nuh district and spilled over into Gurugram, escalating tensions and prompting authorities to enforce a curfew and deploy security forces.

On Monday night, a mob set fire to an under-construction mosque in Gurugram’s sector 57, tragically killing the naib imam in the attack. In addition, two more individuals succumbed to injuries sustained during the earlier attack in Nuh, bringing the death toll to four in that incident alone.

The violence in Nuh involved mobs attacking a Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) procession, firing shots, hurling stones, and setting cars ablaze at Khedla Mod. In response, rioters in Gurugram’s Sohna town burned vehicles and shops. Thankfully, there were no casualties reported as police managed to disperse the mob before significant harm occurred.

However, the situation took a turn for the worse when another group set fire to an under-construction mosque in Gurugram’s Anjuman Masjid. During this attack, the 26-year-old naib imam, Saad, and another individual sustained injuries from gunshots. Tragically, Saad, a native of Bihar, passed away in the hospital while receiving treatment.

The authorities swiftly apprehended five individuals in connection with the attack on the mosque. Moreover, a mob chanting Jai Shri Ram slogans targeted a roadside eatery in Gurugram’s Badshahpur, setting it on fire. Several shops in the nearby market were also vandalized.

The ongoing violence has left residents in many housing complexes in Gurugram feeling on edge. There have been unconfirmed reports of Muslim residents temporarily leaving their homes in certain parts of the district, but the administration has denied these claims and urged people not to spread rumors.

Gurugram authorities have announced the reopening of schools and educational institutions, excluding those in Sohna, which will resume activities the day after. Various security measures have been implemented, including flag marches and peace committee meetings in nearby districts.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, after reviewing the situation, deemed the violence in Nuh part of a larger conspiracy. He pledged strict action against the culprits, ensuring that no rioter would be spared. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij echoed this sentiment, expressing his determination to bring all responsible individuals to justice.

In Delhi, the VHP joint general secretary, Surendra Jain, alleged that the Nuh attack was orchestrated in a pre-planned manner, targeting Hindu devotees during a religious procession. Jain also accused certain Congress leaders from Haryana of inciting the violence. He demanded an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and criticized the state government for what he perceived as an intelligence failure.

To address the escalating tensions, the authorities have deployed a significant number of paramilitary and Haryana police personnel in Nuh. They have registered 44 FIRs and taken 70 individuals into custody. The violence has resulted in substantial damage to vehicles, with 120 being vandalized and some set on fire.

Security has been heightened at temples and mosques throughout the area in response to these incidents. However, it is important to note that maintaining a balanced view of the topic is crucial to journalistic integrity. Perspectives from different individuals involved or affected by the violence should be considered when analyzing the situation.

As the investigation continues, it is imperative that the authorities bring the culprits to justice and take necessary measures to prevent further incidents of communal violence. It is a challenging time for the residents of Gurugram and Nuh, and restoring peace and harmony in the region should be the utmost priority for all stakeholders involved.
