Coshocton Community Choir will bring ‘Comfort and Joy’ to Newcomerstown on Sunday
The Coshocton Community Choir will perform selections from its Comfort and Joy Christmas concert at 7 p.m. Sunday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Newcomerstown. The 86-voice adult choir includes singers from Coshocton and 12 other counties. Under the direction of Charles R. Snyder, the choir will deliver a mix of sacred and secular Christmas choral music.
The concert’s theme, Comfort and Joy, seeks to bring solace and happiness amid the world’s current tragedies. Snyder explained the thought process behind the theme, saying, We all need comfort, especially at this time, and we also need some joy to keep us going. ‘God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen,’ while in a minor key, provides both. Comfort and Joy seems to be a perfect theme this year.
Attendees can expect a unique performance that narrates the Christmas story through both spoken word and song. The narration is crafted by the Rev. Richard K. Hoover, complemented by the voiceover talents of Gordon Kendall and Connie Roberts.
Snyder believes the audience will be particularly enamored with several concert selections, such as Comfort Ye from Messiah, Wake, Awake, the spiritual Mary Had a Baby, Sing We Now of Christmas, Carol of the Drum, We Three Kings, Christmas Bell Carol, and various carols for the audience to join in.
Every year, someone will look me in the eye after the concert, and say, ‘This is my Christmas,’ expressed Snyder. We hope it will be an important part of your Christmas celebration too.
The concert is open to the public, and no tickets are required for entry. However, an offering for the choir will be welcomed. For those interested in attending, further information can be obtained by contacting the choir at 740-623-0554 or visiting cosoctoncommunitychoir.org.
