Comedian Julien Lacroix recently opened up about the strength he found in his friendship with Maripier Morin during their rehabilitations. Lacroix recalled how Morin reached out to him after her therapy, wanting to offer support and be there for him. Initially, Lacroix had wanted to handle his rehabilitation journey alone, but he eventually decided to enter therapy at Maison Jean Lapointe, following in Morin’s footsteps.
Both Lacroix and Morin describe themselves as addicted alcoholics and have been sober for three years. In their candid conversation, they touched on various aspects of their substance abuse and recovery, with their friendship serving as a backdrop to their emotional interview.
Lacroix expressed his gratitude for Morin’s support and motivation during his rehabilitation, admitting that he often turns to her for advice or simply to talk when he’s feeling down. Reflecting on his past, Lacroix revealed that he had started using alcohol and drugs at a young age, and by the age of 27, he felt drained and lost. Despite missing the partying lifestyle at times, he emphasized the importance of confronting his issues and having conversations about them.
During the interview, Lacroix also took the opportunity to pay tribute to his girlfriend, Maude, describing her as an intelligent and strong woman. It was Maude who reached out to Jean-Marie Lapointe, a renowned therapist, to seek help for Lacroix.
Lacroix acknowledged that some friends had distanced themselves from him permanently due to the allegations, but he also expressed gratitude for those who recognized his efforts to change and apologized for their previous judgments. He recounted a particularly painful show in Verdun where he had a panic attack and admitted that he momentarily wished he could turn to alcohol and drugs for relief.
The comedian, who had to step away from the public eye following the scandal, recently made a comeback with his second comedy show, Le temps au temps. He exclusively announced to the Journal that he would be testing his material in Quebec City before embarking on a winter 2024 tour.
