Ohio State and Georgia Lead College Football Playoff Rankings 2023: Semifinals Set

The initial College Football Playoff rankings for the 2023 season have been released, and it’s no surprise that Ohio State and Georgia are leading the pack. The Buckeyes hold the top spot, with the Bulldogs close behind at number two.

If the season were to end today, Ohio State would face off against Florida State in one semifinal game, while Georgia would go head-to-head with Michigan in the other playoff game. The winners of these matchups would then go on to compete in the championship game on January 8th at NRG Stadium in Houston.

The semifinals are scheduled to be held at the Orange Bowl in Miami Gardens, Florida, and the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on January 1st.

However, it’s important to note that these rankings only provide an early snapshot of where each team stands. There is still a lot to be determined on the field as the season progresses. For instance, Ohio State and Michigan have a highly-anticipated Big Ten rivalry game coming up on November 25th. Washington, currently ranked fifth, also has a challenging schedule ahead in the Pac-12, with notable matchups against USC, Utah, and Oregon State.

Subsequent College Football Playoff rankings will be released every Tuesday evening until Sunday, December 3rd, when the playoff field will be officially set.

Here are the inaugural 2023 rankings as of Tuesday night:
