Colby Thorndyke of Fairmont, North Carolina, has been awarded the title of Old North State League (ONSL) Player of the Year for his exceptional performance during this summer’s collegiate baseball season. After redshirting during his freshman year at East Carolina University, Thorndyke seized the opportunity to play for the Sandhills Bogeys in the ONSL, a competitive summer league based in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Thorndyke’s enthusiasm and passion for the game were clear as he hit the field, eager to make up for lost time. The talented player showcased his skills throughout the season, leaving a lasting impression on teammates, coaching staff, and opponents alike. Additionally, he secured 12 doubles and five triples, attaining an outstanding on-base percentage of .470 and a slugging percentage of .632. These remarkable figures combined to create a stellar 1.102 OPS (on-base plus slugging).
Thorndyke’s impact was not limited to his offensive contributions. Despite primarily being known for his prowess at the plate, he also showcased his pitching abilities, striking out 14 batters in 13 innings pitched and maintaining a respectable 3.46 earned run average (ERA).
