Cocoa Beach Karate, a local martial arts school in Cocoa Beach, Florida, is offering free self-defense seminars to help protect the community. These seminars aim to educate participants on spatial awareness, assault prevention, and basic self-defense techniques. Led by Sensei Des Chaskelson, owner and chief instructor at Cocoa Beach Karate, these events have been held since 2002 on the Space Coast.
The first seminar will take place on Friday, August 25, at 5:30 p.m. at Cocoa Beach Health and Fitness, located at 1355 North Atlantic Avenue. The second seminar will be held on Saturday, September 16, from 2-3 p.m. as part of Space Coast Women’s Day. This event will be held at Merritt Square Mall on 777 E. Merritt Island Causeway.
Sensei Des Chaskelson, a 6th degree black belt under the World Matsubayashi-Ryu Karate-do Association (WMKA) in Okinawa, Japan, emphasizes the importance of knowing how to defend oneself. The seminars will teach participants assault prevention strategies and practical self-defense tactics. Sensei Des believes that it is better to have the knowledge and skills to defend oneself and never have to use them rather than being caught unprepared in a dangerous situation.
To reserve a spot, participants must RSVP as space is limited. Reservations can be made by emailing Sensei Des at SenseiDes@yahoo.com. Alternatively, more information can be found on Cocoa Beach Karate’s Facebook page or their website, www.CocoaBeachKarate.com.
These free self-defense seminars offered by Cocoa Beach Karate are a valuable opportunity for community members to learn vital skills to protect themselves. By promoting assault prevention and teaching practical self-defense techniques, this initiative contributes to the safety and wellbeing of the residents on the Space Coast.
