Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his best wishes to players and coaches who will be taking part in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin, Germany. The athletes, two futsal players and three coaches from Special Olympics Bharat Area from Uttarakhand, met with the Chief Minister at his Camp Office in Dehradun. They were selected to represent India in the prestigious event, with the games taking place between June 17 to June 25, 2023.
Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher also met with Special Olympics Bharat athletes who will be participating in the games from Chandigarh. The MP invited the athletes to the Smart City Office Sector 17 for a small ceremony where she wished them luck in the event. One athlete (Swimming) and a coach (TT) will participate from Chandigarh in the Special Olympics World Summer Games in Berlin.
The Bihar State Sports Authority also hosted a Send-Off ceremony for the athletes and coaches going for the Berlin Games from the state. The event was attended by DG Sports – Ravindran Shankran, IPS, who blessed and wished all three participants from the state, including an athlete, a unified partner and a coach.
The Special Olympics World Summer Games 2023 will be held in Berlin, Germany, and will welcome 7,000 Special Olympics athletes and Unified partners from approximately 190 countries to compete in 26 sports. Over 3,000 coaches and 20,000 volunteers will support the athletes during the games. A total of 198 athletes and partners and 57 coaches from India are gearing up to participate in 16 sports. The Special Olympics World Games aim to unite people with and without disabilities, people of different nations, cultures, political views and religions through the power of sport.
