Cleveland Ghostbusters Bring Halloween Thrills to Berea: A Hauntingly Good Time

The Cleveland Ghostbusters recently made their presence known in Berea, Ohio, bringing Halloween thrills to the town. With October being the eeriest month of the year, it’s no surprise that spirits and ghostly beings roam freely during this time. The Cleveland Ghostbusters, consisting of Nick Goers, Joyce Ashman, Travis Placedo, and Stephan Manchir, arrived in their decked-out Mini Cooper Clubman, transformed into the Ecto-1M or the Ectomobile. Sporting replica proton packs and ghost traps on their backs, these ghostbusters were ready to capture any spectral beings that crossed their path.

Stephan Manchir, a safety and mission assurance engineer at NASA, first became a Ghostbuster around 20 years ago when he and his college friends were searching for costumes. After outfitting the Mini Cooper to resemble the iconic Ghostbusters car, Manchir gained recognition through social media. This led to invitations to various community and sports events, fundraisers, and more.

The Cleveland Ghostbusters operate with a core group of about a dozen members, with additional helpers for larger events. They aim to promote spooky or Halloween-themed activities during October and ask for donations to their partner charities, such as the Ronald McDonald House and Animal Protective League.

During their recent visit to Berea, the Ghostbusters set up shop beside Front Street Social, where they promoted their pop-up Halloween event called Nightmare on Front Street. The building itself is rumored to be haunted, so the team performed a thorough examination of the premises, known as a Psych Kinetic Scan or PKE, and confirmed its paranormal health. In return for their services, Front Street Social made a generous donation to the Animal Protective League.

While the Ghostbusters were prepared to face any supernatural challenges, they luckily didn’t encounter the super-scaries from the movie, Gozer the Gozerian and the giant Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

In other news, the Alpha Gamma Delta sorority at Baldwin Wallace University shared information about their involvement in combating hunger and food security in the United States. They partner with Feeding America and Meals on Wheels, and locally support Berea, Middleburg Heights, and Cleveland food banks. They also announced an upcoming gala, The Alpha Delta Gamma Sorority ‘Fighting Hunger, Feeling Hope’ for which everyone is invited to participate.

Middleburg Heights will host its 4th Annual Turkey Trot, accepting donations to benefit families of the Middleburg Heights Food Pantry. The event seeks various Thanksgiving items and cash donations for purchasing food items.

Additionally, a Bowl-A-Thon at Southland Lanes in Middleburg Heights will raise funds for the holiday season, with proceeds benefiting families of the Middleburg Heights Food Pantry. Admission will include a donation and a non-food item.

Berea and neighboring communities have several food pantries and resources available to those in need. The Berea Community Outreach Pantry, SCAN Hunger Center Pantry, People’s Community Church Pantry, Second Mile Outreach Pantry, St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Food Pantry, and Bread Ministry at the Berea United Methodist Church all provide assistance to individuals and families.

Lastly, St. Adalbert Catholic Church offers a free hot meal on the third Sunday of every month, and St. Paul Lutheran Church hosts a free community meal twice a month.

These community initiatives aim to address hunger and support those in need, promoting a sense of unity and care in the local area.
