According to the Times of India, the Punjab Water Regulation and Development Authority (PWRDA) recently organized a camp to address the concerns of industrialists facing difficulties in obtaining permissions for groundwater extraction. The camp, held at the Chamber of Industrial and Commercial Undertakings (CICU) in Ludhiana, witnessed the registration of 50 factories on its first day, with approximately 100 units seeking information about the process.
The president of CICU, Upkar Singh Ahuja, highlighted the challenges faced by industrialists in registering with PWRDA due to confusion regarding the required documentation and charges. After approaching PWRDA chairperson Karan Avtar Singh, Ahuja successfully advocated for the establishment of a training-cum-registration camp to address these concerns. During the camp, officials from PWRDA, including executive engineer Maninder Singh and SDO Sandeep Singh, enlightened the attendees about the necessary documentation to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for groundwater extraction. These officials stressed that the NOC process is transparent and straightforward, with Punjab being categorized into green, yellow, and orange zones.
CICU’s general secretary, Honey Sethi, and organizing secretary, J S Bhogal, confirmed that similar camps would be organized in the future. Overall, the objective of these camps is to streamline the registration process and assist industrialists in extracting groundwater legally and efficiently.
